New Technology: USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s

Posted by 1800ucs on July 21, 2009

Some of us tec savy gusy have been waiting for this:  the arrivel of USB 3.0!

Even though its not full blown yet,  ASUS has exposed a high-end motherboard with onboard USB 3.0 ports. This P6X58 premium motherboard also features SATA  6GB/s ports, another first.

Currently,  USB 2.0 is standard and what we all use.   The new 3.0 ports have a blue tab while the 2.o will have a gray tab. It would take a 2.o about 30 seconds to download 1GB on a flash drive and 3 seconds for a 3.o to download the same 1GB.   Unfortunately, there are no devices on the market yet to harness this technology.

The same goes for SATA 6GB: there are no devifes that support SATA 6 as of yet.   Currently, SATA  has a speed of 3GB/s.

SATA (serial ATA) is the current connection standard for hard drives, disk drives, and solidstate drives.   There are some solidstate drives that have maxed out the current standard and thus are the most to benefit form the upcoming standard.

What does all this mean to the average PC user: not much. (for the hard core games a whole lot, and they already know what this means)

This is fairly new technology, all though its good to see that it is out on hardware rather then paper, means that devises that support USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s will come out soon.  Imagine downloading your hi resolution 600 or so pics form you camera in a matter of seconds via USB 3.0.  Or booting you pc in less than 10 seconds (via SATA 6GBs and a solidstate hard drive). I expect the mother board to be over $400.  The average user probably will not see this stuff at home until another two years or so.

More in depth stuff about the ASUS P6X58 is found here.

Bruno is a Hilarious Movie

Posted by 1800ucs on July 20, 2009

5 out of 5 stars.

I was going to wait for the DVD as this is that type of a movie, but decided to see it as I am a big fan of Sacha Baron Cohen’s characters and the movie was tanking due to negative reactions of movie goers.

I am familiar with the Bruno character from watching The Ali G show and found him to be very funny.  I was surprised that the film was not doing well due to people texting negative comments to friends right after or during the movie. Thus, I decided to check it out myself.

It was as expected: the movie was hilarious from begging to end.

There are two ways you can watch this movie.  One, take it with a blind eye; what I mean is, you watch only Bruno as the main character and focus and react to what he does.  The second way to watch this (and I thing the reight way) is to take the victims of  the movie as the main character and focus on their reactions.  Think what you would have done in their situations.  How would you have reacted to Sacha’s insanity?

Some have said that this Bruno is over the top with what he did with the movie.  But there is no other way for this to work.  This is a hard core comedy and over the top situations are the ones that works for this movie and the most funniest.

In the end, Burno is just a character that this talented actor is portraying.  The point of the movie is to get the reactions of the victims when placed in uncomfortable situations, which Sacha’s a master at.

This is a type of movie I will only watch once for the experience but will remember for a long time.  Just as Borat.

Very nice movie if you have the stomach.  Wait till the DVD comes out, them run and get it.  If you have an open mind and get the comedy you will laugh your ass off.

How to Raise your Kids 101

Posted by 1800ucs on July 15, 2009

I think kids can be bred to be smart.  Its critical to read book to them from birth, especially, around one-and-a-half to three.  Read many and much.  This is a critical foundation for preschool.   But remember; reading is not the only thing.  Explain as your read and point the words you are reading or scan the words with your finger as you read. This will help them learn to read quickly and by explaining things that you read, they will get the tools to see the bigger picture.   I think this helps in their imagination, but not sure,  as kids are pretty good at that without any help.

This will result in a smart kid.  There are two kinds of smart: smart common sense and knowledge smart or book smart.  If I had to pick, common sense is more important because its part natural selection, the alpha in a  group.  I believe if you do the above with your kids, common sense is acquired.

Your kids will develop their own personalty which is part of their genial makeup.  But their brain is yours to develop.  You might have herd of the physiologist who took his young daughter Susan Polgar and made her in to the grand chess master. He basically made her brain.

When you have set the foundation, when they are around 4 or 5,  you will be amazed at what they can accomplish.  But you have to encourage, be positive, understanding and push them.  If you do not push they will get bored and loos interest.  You have to encourage then to stay with what THEY what to do, be it art, music, sports.  Music is the best of the three mentioned.  Try to get you kid to learn an instrument and stick with it.  Very important.

Do not get discouraged if music is not what they want to do.  That is just not their thing.  There are many things in this world one can excel and be a master at.

Unfortunately, blogging is not mine.

Watchman (2009) Review

Posted by 1800ucs on July 10, 2009

3 out of 5

Why 3 out of 5: A bit complicated and evolved film.

This movie was not what I was expecting.   I saw some trailers here and there and didn’t pay much attention, so I went to see the movie which turned out to be false expectations.  I also did not know about the book from which this movie was derived.

What I was expecting:  A typical action packed super hero movie. This was not the case.

What was different:  The movie was more about human flaws and emotion with deep meninges.  You pretty much have to pay attention and involved with the characters in order to grasp what is being portrayed.  Its a definite duo watch in order to comprehend ideas stated in this film.

If you are going into this film looking for a Dark Knight type of action and drama, this is not it.  Although the basic concept of the film is obvious to the regular movie goer, it does take a thinker to fully understand what the film is trying to say.

If you are the regular movie goer, I would recommended reading some of the reviews from Roger Ebert as a start so you can fully enjoy this movie.

Roger Ebert Review of Watchman 1 Roger Ebert Review 2 of Watchman

The trailer is false advertising: seems like an action packt movie but its not.
